Frequently Asked Questions

Is this right for us?

What is The Couples Reset Programme?

The Couples Reset Programme, also referred to as Couples Reset, is a focused programme for couples whose relationship feels close to breakdown. Sessions take place live online, with both partners taking part together.

It helps both partners understand what is going wrong, interrupt destructive patterns, and make a genuine attempt at repair.

It is intended for couples who are still willing to engage in the process together.

Who is The Couples Reset Programme for?

This programme is intended for couples whose relationship feels strained and painful, and where both people are still willing to engage in the process and explore whether repair is possible.

It may be helpful for couples who feel stuck in repeated conflict, communication difficulties, emotional distance, or uncertainty about the future of the relationship.

When is this programme not suitable?

This programme may not be suitable if:

  • either partner is not willing to engage in exploring whether repair may still be possible
  • either partner cannot participate freely or safely
  • either partner is currently involved in a romantic, sexual, or emotionally intimate relationship with another person outside the couple relationship
  • there is coercion, intimidation, threat, abuse, fear, or a safeguarding concern
  • there is a current emergency, acute crisis, unmanaged risk, or a need for urgent support
  • the level of conflict or instability makes this format inappropriate
  • a different form of support, including individual, specialist, medical, crisis, or emergency support, would be more appropriate
What is the Initial Enquiry and Suitability Form, and why do we need to complete it?

The Initial Enquiry and Suitability Form is the first step in the enquiry and pre-booking process. Each partner completes it separately so I can understand your situation and consider whether this programme can be offered safely and appropriately.

It is not a counselling session, diagnosis, or emergency or crisis support. It helps me consider whether this is the right time for this focused work before moving forward.

If, after reviewing both forms, I am able to offer the programme, I will send you a confirmation email with the next steps.

Is this general couples therapy?

Not in the usual open-ended sense.

Couples Reset is not designed as open-ended or routine couples therapy. It is a focused, structured programme for couples whose relationship feels in serious difficulty and may be approaching breakdown.

Can we still take part if we feel uncertain about the relationship?

Yes. A couple does not need to feel hopeful or clear about the outcome at the start. It is understandable for one or both partners to feel uncertain when the relationship is under serious strain.

What matters is that both people are willing to engage in the process and explore whether repair may still be possible. If one partner is not willing to take part in that exploration, a different form of support may be more appropriate.

Can you offer emergency support?

No.

This is not an emergency service. If you require urgent support or there is an immediate risk of harm, please contact 999, NHS 111, your GP, Samaritans on 116 123, or your local emergency or crisis service.

Why is it called a “reset”?

A reset becomes necessary when a couple feels stuck in the same painful cycle and needs a more focused intervention to change course.

The aim is not to gloss over the difficulty, but to create enough clarity and structure for repair to become possible.

About the programme

Who is behind The Couples Reset Programme?

My name is Edison Astudillo. I am a qualified counsellor with 17 years of mental health experience, and I specialise in working with couples facing serious relationship distress, particularly where the relationship feels close to breakdown. I am an Accredited Registrant with the National Counselling and Psychotherapist Society in the UK. I created The Couples Reset Programme to help couples understand destructive patterns, address what is happening between them, and make a genuine attempt at repair where possible.

Is this a self-guided online course?

No. This is not a self-guided online course. The core of the work takes place in live online sessions, with both partners taking part together. The preparation materials and between-session tasks are there to support the process, but they do not replace the live sessions.

Is this a group programme with other couples?

No. Couples Reset is not group therapy and it is not a course attended with other couples. The live sessions are private sessions for one couple at a time, with both partners attending together online.

What is included in The Couples Reset Programme?

The programme includes:

  • one 2-hour live online Intensive Session
  • two 60-minute live online follow-up sessions
  • preparation materials
  • structured tasks to complete between sessions
How long does the programme take?

The programme usually runs over approximately 4 weeks, although exact timing depends on availability and the scheduling of the follow-up sessions.

Why is the programme short and structured?

The programme is short and structured because couples in serious distress often need focused help quickly.

A contained format can create clarity, reduce drift, and support practical change without leaving the work too open-ended.

It is only a few sessions — can this really help?

Yes — for some couples, it can.

The programme is brief, but it is designed to be focused and intensive rather than open-ended. When both partners engage openly and take an active part in the process, even a small number of sessions can help create clarity, interrupt destructive patterns, and support a more constructive way forward.

That said, outcomes vary and cannot be guaranteed.

What outcomes can we expect?

Typical outcomes may include:

  • clearer understanding of the negative cycle between you
  • better awareness of triggers and escalation patterns
  • improved communication and de-escalation
  • more effective repair after rupture
  • greater emotional understanding between partners
  • stronger foundations for rebuilding trust, stability, and connection

The programme is designed to support relationship repair, but outcomes will differ from couple to couple.

We argue frequently — how will you handle that in sessions?

The sessions are structured and guided.

Both partners are expected to engage respectfully and seriously in the work. My role is to help keep the conversation balanced, focused, and productive so that the session does not simply become another uncontained argument.

Do we need to attend together?

Yes.

The programme is designed for both partners to attend together and engage in the process as a couple.

Do we need to be in the same place during the live session?

Yes. Both partners are expected to attend from the same private location, where they can speak freely without interruptions or distractions and be seen and heard clearly throughout the session.

Do you offer face-to-face sessions?

No. Sessions are online only.

Do you offer support between sessions?

No.

There is no therapeutic support by phone, text, or email between sessions.

Booking and practical questions

How do we start?

Please begin by completing the online Initial Enquiry and Suitability Form

Each partner should complete the form separately.

The Initial Enquiry and Suitability Form is used to help me consider whether the programme is appropriate to offer. If, after reviewing both forms, I am able to offer the programme, I will send you a confirmation email with the next steps and payment details.

How do we pay?

Payment is by bank transfer.

What happens after payment?

Once payment has been received in cleared funds, the programme is treated as having begun. I will then telephone you to arrange the first 2-hour live online intensive session. Once the first session has been arranged, I will send preparation materials and a link for each partner to complete their own online Intake Form before the session.

When do you normally work?

Sessions are normally offered on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm, subject to availability.

How far in advance do we need to book?

Sessions should normally be arranged at least 7 days in advance.

Does payment guarantee a time slot?

No.

Payment does not guarantee a particular slot, and no session is booked until the agreed date and time have been confirmed.

Can we reschedule a session?

Yes, usually.

For any scheduled live session, 48 hours’ notice or more normally allows one reschedule of that session, subject to availability.

With less than 48 hours’ notice, or if either client does not attend, that session may be treated as delivered and no longer available for reuse or rescheduling.

What if one of us wants to stop the programme?

If either of you chooses to stop after payment, any refund will be handled in line with the Terms and Conditions

Does the programme expire if we pause it?

Yes.

Any outstanding parts of the programme must be completed within 3 months of payment. After that, any remaining parts will no longer be available.

Can we book extra sessions?

Couples Reset is designed as a complete, focused piece of work in itself.

If, after completion, it is mutually agreed that a one-off additional session would be helpful, that may be discussed separately.
